This is a fashion illustration book which depicts the dress mode from a retrospective point of view. It relates fashion not only to the social lifestyle of people but also to the economic and political trend of the times, thus, giving the term "Street Mode" a spec al influential meaning to culture and life

I could not just flip through this book idly; I had to sit in a quiet place, concentrate, and reflect on what he was trying to say. Surrounding the plates are many tid-bits and factoids concerning the period and dress. "40 hot tips for window covers!"). The translations are quite silly and even point out that marijuana is a pound a week accessory for the fashionable Rasta man. Periods covered extend from the 1700's Baroque period to the Grunge period of the mid 1990's. No color pictures except the cover, so one might want to purchase another similar book with pictures of restored rooms in similar homes for color guidance, trims, room set-up, etc.. If you were expecting a home decorating magazine from the Victorian era this is not really it (e.g. This book never gets old and all your guests will love it! The illustrations are quite entertaining and detailed. We'd bought an Eastlake Victorian which had been restored inside and out. Also helpful in choosing furniture pieces, draperies, and objets d'art. If only the author would do a follow up book to chart recent trends.
