However, don't discard your biographies of the Duchess--she is, surprisingly, a secondary figure in this masterful study of the King and ex-King who gave up a throne for the woman he loved. There have been so many Windsor books that librarians will look for reasons not to purchase another. Ziegler is sympathetic, but does not mince words in reporting misdeeI understand now why this book is a classic, a favorite to so many, and he is the most translated author of all time. One is a spoiled aristocrat, pouting because his usual ploys have not succeeded in getting him money to bail him out of his many debts. I'm not counting IT.)Thank you Leigh Bardugo, for this duology. Otherwise it can be very enlightening.. this one's pretty depressing, but I pretty much knew that going into things. The only meat they would've had was goat, and even that was only eaten on special occasions. Keith Pyeatt's STRUCK is a fascinating and original read. I'm sure I'll pull it out of the shelf from time to time to enjoy again.. I'm encouraged to know that he has faced his demons and freed himself of of the burdens of social expectation by refusing to give anyone else a stick with which to hit him over the head.
